April 22, 2015

It’s Earth Day again, and it seemed especially appropriate this year, our fourth of relentless drought, that I write a bit about water conservation, both in the kitchen, and in the garden. Every little bit helps!

Happy Spring, everybody!

I hope the weather is warming up where you are, and that you’ll soon be cavorting outside, getting your regular dose of vitamin D. Here in Los Angeles, spring usually comes early, and this year was no exception. To celebrate, I’m reviving the gardening portion of this blog, talking about many of the lovely new things I’ve got growing on.

In the kitchen, I participated in a thrifty eating challenge at the end of March, making an absolutely scrummy Japanese three-course dinner, which you can read about here.

There is a lot more going on, which I hope to share with you soon. In the meantime, I hope you have a ton of kitchen (and possibly gardening) adventures of your own!

Howdy, everyone!

There are lots of exciting things going on in Myjoland these days. For starters, the blog was really hopping last month as I raced to complete one of my New Year’s resolutions: writing up the remaining 2013 Cookbook Challenge posts that had been sitting on the shelf for over a year. It was a push, but I did it. Witness! Point your eyeballs in the direction of:

I also managed to slip in a bonus post, a recipe from my pal Sal Godfrey’s book “Cheaper than Chips”.

With that challenge finally put to rest, I’m eying a couple of new ones, and this time I promise to be better about keeping on top of them (another New Year’s resolution). I also have several recipes of my own that I’m putting finishing touches on in hopes I’ll be able to share them here soon. So keep checking back!

Right, I’m off to work on more blog posts! Until next time!

Happy New Year!

I hope your holidays, whichever one(s) you celebrate, were wonderful. Mine were busy, but packed full of friends and family, good food, and great fun, so no complaints here.

I am, once again, incredibly behind on the blogging, which I hope to make up for at least a little in the coming weeks. So stay tuned for more foodish fun on the horizon!

November 26, 2014

We’re on the Eve of Thanksgiving here in the United States, so I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has taken the time to visit this site, read my blog, watch Getting Schooled, or chat with me on Facebook or Twitter. The internet is a lovely place full of lovely people, and I’m very thankful for all of yous guys! :D

Happy Thanksgiving!

September 18, 2014

Man, this year is just flying by, isn’t it! I hope you all had a fantastic summer, and that you’re looking forward to snuggly fall weather.  That’s a ways off for those of us here in Los Angeles, given that September and October are typically our hottest months, but I am hoping to live vicariously through all you folks in cooler climes. :D

I’ve been busy on the blogging front this month! I’ve written about my family’s beef and rice taco recipe, as well as how I spent years chasing what I consider the perfect hummus.  I also penned a little tutorial on how to roast garlic!  I’ve got a few more posts in the queue, including another Chef Watson recipe, so definitely stay tuned.

August 21, 2014

True to my word, I’m working on catching up on the Cookbook challenge blog posts.  Here’s a new one, cooked in May 2013.  Enjoy!

July 16, 2014

Howdy!  I hope you’re all having fabulous summers.  Mine has been the usual whirlwind, but I’m trying hard to savor every moment, even as they go whizzing past.

There have been some exciting developments since I last updated you.  Firstly, I’m super excited to be taking part in beta testing a new software program called Chef Watson, a collaboration between Bon Appétit and IBM that aims to create new and interesting dishes.  You can read about my first recipe test here.

Also, for the social media savvy among you, I’m now on Pinterest, as is Getting Schooled.  (GS is on Instagram now, too!)

I’ve had requests for some of my recipes, and I thought it would be fun to make them part of my blog, so look for those coming up.

Lastly (for now), both the community garden plot and my patio garden are flourishing, and I hope to be able to share photos of them with you all very soon, as well.

Until then,  I hope you’re all getting your grill on and enjoying all of the marvelousness that summer has to offer.

April 5, 2014

Hey everybody!  I hope 2014 has been treating you beautifully thus far.

I know it’s been a while, but I’ve been hard at work over on the Getting-Schooled website, adding goodies, uploading new videos, and so forth.  And while I know I am woefully behind on the 2013 Cookbook Challenge posts, now that I seem to have a bit of breathing room, I’m determined to get them up to date a soon as possible.

To that end, please take a gander at the latest in the series: March – 2013 Cookbook Challenge.  Only a year overdue; not bad, eh?  ;)   Also, I’ve added a Getting Schooled page to this site, and made other tweaks, as well, such as posting some long overdue clips to the Videos page.  Have a look ’round, if you like!

November 4, 2013

Hello, everyone!  Sorry to have been silent for so long.  I’ve been hard at work on the cooking show I mentioned below, and at long last, it’s available to view at the official website: Getting-Schooled.com.  Check it out!

I’m hoping that now that the show has launched, I’ll have some time to get back to those Cookbook Challenge posts.  I promise you, I’ve been doing the cooking; I just haven’t had much time for writing about it.  Stay tuned!

Hope you all have a lovely Fall!

June 12, 2013

I’m hosting my own cooking show!

Yes, that’s the big announcement I’ve been teasing.  I’ve been developing the concept for a while  now as I scraped together my pennies to be able to fund a production, and at long last we’re filming the pilot episode!  Details to follow, but just know that we’re hoping to debut it this fall.

Unfortunately, shooting has meant delaying the publication of new Cookbook Challenge posts, but rest assured I’ve still been cooking and taking photos.  I just haven’t had time to write with everything that’s been going on.   As soon as we finish shooting, I’ll be back at it, I promise.

That’s all for now!  Until next time, have happy days and peaceful nights!

April 21, 2013

A lot of super exciting things have been happening lately, most of which I can’t tell you about…yet.  I’ll give a quick tease and say that it involves a return to hosting for yours truly, and I couldn’t be more excited!  I’ll spill details as I’m able, but for now, shhhhhhh….

In the meantime, take a gander at the latest post in my Cookbook Challenge series, and read all about the recipe I cooked in February.

Toodles!

March 27, 2013

Hola, gang!  At long last, the first post of the 2013 Cookbook Challenge is up!  (Hooray!)  You can read it here!

Now to get to work on February.  :D   =dashes away=

February 19, 2013

Hello, again!  It’s been ages, I know, but I’m back!  I hope you are all having a happy and healthy 2013.  There are so many exciting things happening in Myjoland these days,  I can’t wait to write about them all.

For starters, I’ve set myself a fun, new challenge for 2013, involving my sadly underutilized cookbook collection. Read all about it here.

Secondly, there have been fantastic new developments in the realm of gardening.  A friend has added me to her community garden plot, and we’ve spent the last few weeks weeding and planting.  There’s a lot going on, but I’m hoping to be able to keep you updated as our lovely little garden grows.  Stay tuned!

xoxo

November 19, 2012

Hi, everyone!  Apologies for letting so much time pass!  Life happened, and although I was updating the blog, I once again neglected to announce it here.

In today’s blog post, we bid a fond farewell to our lovely Garden 2012.  The weather has turned cold, and the garden must be put to sleep until the spring. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy the most wonderful Thanksgiving, and if you don’t hear from me before then (don’t worry, I have a funny feeling you will), have a faaaabulous winter holiday season, as well.  :)

=virtual hugs=

September 7, 2012

Holy crow, how is it September already?  More importantly, why haven’t I unpdated this newsfeed since July?  That’s outrageous, I tell you!

Fortunately, I haven’t been idle the last couple of months.  The old day job has kept me hopping, but I have still managed to write about one blog post a week.  So if you haven’t checked in on Garden 2012 since July because I failed to notify you, my bad!  It’s all there, just waiting to be read.

Enjoy!

July 2, 2012

Hola!  Another couple of  blog posts have gone up.  Apologies for them being a bit short and rushed.  My workload has gone nutso of late, and has left me with precious little time for blogging.  Let’s hope that changes soon, eh?  In the meantime, enjoy the pretty pictures, and know that I’ll get back to writing pretty words just as soon as I am able.

June 15, 2012

Finished another couple posts this week.  Lots of exciting things going on in the garden.  Enjoy!

May 30, 2012

Two more blog posts!   If you take a look at them, please let you know what you think.  Unless, of course, you think my penis needs enlarging or that my medications could be obtained more cheaply in Canada.  In that case, you can keep your comments to yourself, thank you very much!  ;)
